Over MLK weekend Liz and I packed up Morgan and headed to Phoenix, AZ. My parents drove out from Ventura and met us. Liz and I were there for a soccer tournament, and I figured, heck, while I'm here I might as well run the PF Chang's Rock and Roll half marathon. As if playing soccer after 10 months off wasn't going to be hard enough, why not toss in 13.1 miles you haven't trained for? Sounds fun.
We played a couple games on Saturday, and I missed not one, not two, but three one-on-ones with the keeper. Not normal for me :) Sunday I woke up at the crack of dawn and got to the half marathon start and waited around in the cold for the gun to go off. I was pretty sore from soccer and never really warmed up, but also never really pushed it either. The course is pretty ugly and not that exciting (you practically run down one street the entire way). I finished in 1:41 and waited for my friend just 10 minutes behind me. We went and got our free beer and laid in the grass, which ALMOST made it worth it.
It was fun to see friends and get to spend some time with my parents. Next on my radar, potentially, is the 24 hours in Moab run. We'll see if we can get a team together.
